Traceback log error after "doing many things in gui"

If I was to say load an instrument file, a materials file, some image data, save the images, reload the processed images, run find orientations, then proceed to run fit grains I often will get an error stating there is a traceback log error and it returns without doing anything. I then have to restart the process after closing the GUI. I don't have a set of more concrete building blocks to make this happen, but I will try to log here when It does and the specific steps I took prior to the failure. Has anyone else seen this? This bug has been present for a couple years.

If there is an exception with an error message, and you paste that error message here, I might be able to fix the issue from that alone, especially if it provides a traceback.

So I have spent the past two hours attempting to break HEXRDGUI to get this error and happily (though potentially frustratingly for this ticket) I have been unable to. When I next see the error I will grab a snip and post it here.
