app keeps crashing on launch after updating to v2.4 (includes log)

i just updated the app to version 2.4 and unfortunately i can't get it to open anymore. it just keeps stopping instantly.

whenever i tap the basicsync icon, it shows the splash screen for a split second (milliseconds) and then immediately closes/crashes back to the home screen.

here is what i've tried so far to fix it on my end (but nothing worked):

• cleared the app cache
• cleared all app data
• completely uninstalled and reinstalled the app

since none of that worked, i grabbed a crash log using logfox. hopefully this helps point to whatever is causing the issue!

Is your LineageOS install rooted? I've only seen this happen before on rooted devices where some root hiding mechanism was interfering with apps writing to their data directories.

It's crashing because the app can't write to its own /sdcard/Android/data/com.chiller3.basicsync/files directory.

Ah, that would make sense. 2.3 is the first version that tries to write to this user-accessible folder. (When you go to Actions -> Support Bundle in Syncthing's web UI, this is where the log files will be saved.)

Yeah, it's something specific to your setup, but I'm happy to help try and troubleshoot it. Could you these two adb commands and post the output? I want to confirm that the permissions on the folders are what they're supposed to be.

Same device, same ROM, rooted and same problem.

There are no com.chiller3.basicsync folder under /data/media/0/Android/data/

The "solution" was use the Root Explorer app (but can be done from terminal) to create the folder and change its owner and SELinux context.

* owner and group varies from installation to installation.

Hmm, for /data/media, it's not any different from my device aside from the group on the com.chiller3.basicsync directory. But for /sdcard, the SELinux labels are all media_rw_data_file vs. fuse on mine. Usually, that means it's an older device that uses the sdcardfs filesystem, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I downloaded the LineageOS 23.2 build for the device and see it has external_storage.sdcardfs.enabled=0 in build.prop.

I really have no idea what could be causing this. Maybe a full system logcat at the time of the crash might indicate what else is preventing the directory from being created.

Note: I have formated the /data partition and BasicSync doesn't crash anymore ... (for now), so I don't think I can be of much help.

Ah, no worries! Yeah, based on the logcat you sent, I think it's very likely the value was previously false or entirely missing (and is the same issue that you found: crdroidandroid/issue_tracker#916).

Android refuses to create app data directories if that value indicates that CE storage (per-user encrypted storage) is unavailable.
