Phones and email link doesn't work

We use tel:// or mailto:// but doesnt' work on Android, also it's not possible to copy them for use it in other apps

Te expected behaviors should be:

tel:// opens default phone app with the number ready to call
mailto:// opens default email client with the email recipient filled in

Analysis & proposed fix

The root cause is that react-native-webview does not automatically handle non-HTTP(S) URL schemes on Android. When the WebView encounters a tel: or mailto: link, it silently discards it — no navigation happens and the OS never gets a chance to delegate it to the phone or email app.

The fix is to intercept URL requests before the WebView tries to load them using the onShouldStartLoadWithRequest prop, and delegate any non-HTTP(S) URL to the OS via React Native's Linking.openURL().

Note: This fix has not been validated against a real account. The implementation is based on code analysis and the known behaviour of react-native-webview on Android. A login to staging or production would be needed to confirm tel: and mailto: links are present and that the fix works end-to-end. Any help testing this would be appreciated.

I just dropped by and decided to help a little. This is something I'd like to do more often for projects like yours (coop, XESS). I've noticed there's a real lack of frontend-oriented technologies (TS, JS, Node...) in your sector — feel free to let me know if there are more opportunities to collaborate.

For example, if I can share my opinion XD, as far as I understand this codebase is using React Native just to wrap the original web-app and show it as a webview inside a native shell. That feels like a contradiction to me — building and maintaining native code per platform just to end up displaying a webview. I'd rather make the web-app itself a proper PWA (manifest + service worker), installable on its own, and skip the native wrapper entirely. If native code is genuinely needed at some point, tools like Ionic make that much simpler than React Native.

I'd like to spend some of my free time on open-source projects aligned with my values. However, over time it's becoming harder to find enough time and motivation 😓 (family, job, etc).
