Modify/Update categories

Is it possible to update/modify the categories once they are created? Once a Category is created, I can't seem to find an option to modify the name.

there's no dedicated "Categories" admin screen with an edit button — Category is just a text field stored on each individual group. Renaming a category means editing that field on every group currently using it. (select another category or create a new one)

Why doesn't renaming just work in one click?
Categories aren't a separate managed list in B1Admin's data model — they're generated dynamically from whatever value groups have in their Category field. So there's nothing centralized to edit; you're updating each group's label individually.

Will this affect Teams or the Serving module?
No. Groups categories are entirely separate from the Serving module (Ministries/Teams/Plans). Renaming a Groups category only changes how groups are labelled and filtered in the People → Groups area.

see steps below:

1.Open the group In B1Admin, go to the Groups tab and click into any group currently assigned to the category you want to rename.
2. Click the edit (pencil) icon, This opens the group's settings, including its Category field.
3. Change the Category field. Type the new category name (e.g. "Department") to create it, or select it from the dropdown if it already exists from a previous edit.
4. Save. The group now shows under the new category name.
5. Repeat for every group in the old category, Category isn't a separately managed list in B1Admin — it's just a text field on each group. Renaming it means updating that field on every group that used the old name, one at a time.
6. Confirm the old category is gone. Once no groups reference the old category name, it no longer appears anywhere in the Groups list — there's nothing else to delete.
