10 suggestions for improvement

Hello everyone, I installed LingmoOS here on a partition to try out the system, and it is surprisingly beautiful, minimalist and elegant. Congratulations to the team.

I am coming from Ubuntu, from an installation as the main OS, in which I installed several extensions to make it similar to MacOS, but they often conflict with each other and present bugs, but in LingmoOS everything is very well configured and works perfectly.

Anyway, I would like to report some improvements that I think are interesting.

1. The dock for launching programs could be even more customizable, giving us the opportunity to adjust the level of maximization of the animation when we pass the cursor over the icons. The animation is beautiful, has personality, but is shy, I think there should be an adjustment of the size of the icons to maximize between small, medium and large.

2. And also, I think it is important to also adjust the level of transparency in the dock in addition to the top bar of the system, where the notifications and clock are.

3. I think adding a shadow to the program window that is in the foreground (focus) would add a touch of elegance.

4. There is a bug when we start the system, the wallpaper is applied to the upper left corner of the screen, but it returns to its place when we click on the program launcher icon.

5. the keyboard/language input method notification next to the clock has a black font outline, which completely clashes with the system interface.
   

6. When some programs are installed, they do not have the default icon, only after one or two reboots.
   

7. Very important! Add a button to the top bar to switch audio devices. On my computer, LingmoOS does not know when to direct the audio to the HDMI output of my Radeon RX 550 or to the headphones, forcing me to use a third-party program for this, called Pulse Audio volume control.
   

8. Implement the multiple workspaces feature, it helps a lot with day-to-day productivity.

9. There are still some graphic glitches, such as icon and function identification labels that appear with the text outside the labels, and things like that, but overall it doesn't hinder the user experience.

10. Congratulations, the system is very nice, I can't wait for the final version to come out so I can migrate to it permanently.

Well, I'm not a programmer yet, and I think this is a good way to contribute to the project.

I'm very excited about this O.S. I'd like to make one more observation: I noticed that the audio is generally low. Even if I turn the volume up to maximum, it's around 40% of the total power that Ubuntu, for example, can produce, so whether it's the HDMI output or the headset, it's low.

So, that's another observation, check what's causing it. Oh yes, there are some error messages when I shut down or boot up the system. I've attached a picture for you to see.

idk if this is the right section buti have no monitor on my laptop so i use a vga screen and whenever i boot it i have to manually set the vga screen to main display , also after installing the button where i shutdown or restart my machine disappeared , please fix that , and i love this distro its one of my very fav ones ! Hi, I've been using LingmoOS for a while now, and I have to say the latest release is quite solid — definitely suitable for daily use. However, I’ve noticed a few areas that might be worth looking into for future improvements:

1. Network Indicator in the Panel
   Currently, the only panel icon that opens the system menu is the sound indicator. It would be helpful to also display an icon representing the active network connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi), even if it still leads to the Control Center when clicked.
   On my system (Ethernet-only), the Control Center still shows only a Wi-Fi toggle — which doesn’t make sense for my setup. Ideally, it should detect when only Ethernet is available and show an appropriate icon/toggle.

2. “Show Desktop” Icon
   The icon does resemble a monitor, but it’s not very intuitive. It might be worth revisiting the design. Also, it would be great if all panel icons had tooltips for clarity and accessibility.

3. Notification Icon
   The notifications icon feels static. It doesn’t provide any visual feedback when there are unread notifications — maybe a badge, dot, or number could be added to indicate activity.

4. Clock Menu
   It does display a clock, that's new. No calendar, ok. No major issues here, just a neutral observation.

Compositor Concerns

One issue that has significantly impacted my experience is related to the compositor. My setup is modest: an 8th-gen Intel i5 with integrated graphics.

Here are the problems I’ve encountered:

• While animations are smooth and there are very few visible artifacts, moving windows causes occasional flickering or a "hanging" effect.
• Enabling Wobbly Windows (under Accessibility) slightly reduces the issue, but doesn't eliminate it.
• Interestingly, switching the Power Profile to Performance temporarily fixes the problem, but the system seems to revert to Power Saving automatically.
• Changing the compositor setting to prefer low latency also helps, though inconsistently.

Overall, this behavior is a bit strange. I'm used to KWin being very stable and free of such glitches, so I'm wondering if this could be a configuration bug or a specific issue with hardware compatibility.

The problem for me with Cutefish was frequently inaccessible software repositories that only existed in China.
For wider adoption success, LingmoOS needs to:

1. update to Debian 13 Wayland
2. locate software repositories in Europe and/or USA.

I would love to see a Debian 13 LingmoOS with a secondary LXQt 2.3 Wayland session login option.
Both the LingmoOS DE and LXQt use Qt and can use Kwin.

BTW, my current main distro is MX 25 KDE which replaced my previous favorite, MX 23 Fluxbox.
