Migrating from OpenClaw to profClaw

If you are moving from OpenClaw to profClaw, here is what the process looks like.

Import command

profclaw import openclaw --path ~/.openclaw

This pulls in conversations, settings, and API keys from your OpenClaw installation.

What transfers

• Conversation history
• Provider API keys (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.)
• Custom instructions / system prompts

What doesn't transfer

• OpenClaw-specific messaging integrations (different protocol)
• Session tokens (you will need to re-authenticate)
• Custom tools (profClaw has its own tool system with 72 built-in)

Why people are switching

A few things come up repeatedly:

1. Multi-provider support. OpenClaw is Anthropic-only. profClaw connects to 35 providers including free local models via Ollama.
2. Cost control. Smart routing sends trivial queries to cheap models. Per-token budget tracking with alerts.
3. Self-contained. Task management, tickets, projects, cron jobs built in. No need to glue together separate tools.
4. Runs anywhere. Pico mode on a Pi Zero in 100MB. OpenClaw needs a proper server.

Both are AGPL-3.0. Both are good projects. profClaw just covers more ground if you need more than chat.
