net_waves() was made defunct (moved to net_by_waves() in netrics), which leaves manynet without a cheap metadata count of waves even though to_waves()/from_waves() live here — slightly odd next to surviving net_dims()/net_modes()/net_layers(). Maybe call net_times() if that becomes the standard through stocnet?
