The adaptive timestep for allocation might not be needed for stability after all after recent fixes. Runs with the adaptive timestep are also quite a bit slower than with the fixed timestep, probably because the adaptive timestep is much smaller than the fixed timestep. We might eventually remove the adaptive time stepping completely for simplicity if we are convinced that we indeed do not need it.
