# Computer Use API - Quick Start Guide

Get JARVIS using Claude Computer Use API for display connections in 5 minutes.

---

## Quick Setup (3 Steps)

### Step 1: Install Dependencies

```bash
pip install anthropic>=0.8.0
```

### Step 2: Set API Key

```bash
export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY="your-anthropic-api-key"
```

Get your API key from: https://console.anthropic.com/

### Step 3: Test It

```bash
python test_computer_use_integration.py "Living Room TV"
```

You should see JARVIS provide voice updates and connect to your TV!

---

## Integration Examples

### Quick Integration (Add to Existing Code)

**Replace your existing display connection code with:**

```python
from backend.display.jarvis_computer_use_integration import get_jarvis_computer_use
# In your JARVIS class
class JARVISAgentVoice:
def __init__(self, ...):
# Add this line
self.computer_use = get_jarvis_computer_use(
jarvis_voice_engine=self.voice_engine
)
async def connect_to_tv(self, device_name: str):
# Replace your existing connection logic with this:
result = await self.computer_use.connect_to_display(device_name)
return result
```

**That's it!** Your JARVIS now uses Computer Use API with automatic fallback to UAE.

---

## Integration Points

### For Display Monitor Service

Update `backend/display/display_monitor_service.py`:

```python
from backend.display.jarvis_computer_use_integration import get_jarvis_computer_use
class DisplayMonitorService:
def __init__(self, ...):
# Add Computer Use integration
self.computer_use = get_jarvis_computer_use(
jarvis_voice_engine=self.voice_engine
)
async def _execute_display_connection(self, display_id: str) -> Dict:
"""Execute display connection with Computer Use"""
display_name = self._get_display_name(display_id)
# Use Computer Use integration
result = await self.computer_use.connect_to_display(display_name)
return result
```

### For Voice Command Handler

Update your voice command processor:

```python
from backend.display.jarvis_computer_use_integration import get_jarvis_computer_use
async def handle_command(command: str):
if "connect to" in command and "tv" in command:
# Extract device name
device_name = extract_device_name(command)
# Use Computer Use
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use()
result = await integration.connect_to_display(device_name)
if result['success']:
speak(f"Connected to {device_name}")
else:
speak(f"Unable to connect: {result['message']}")
```

---

## Configuration Options

### Default (Recommended)

```python
# Hybrid mode: UAE first, Computer Use as fallback
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use(
jarvis_voice_engine=your_voice_engine,
prefer_computer_use=False, # Try UAE first (fast)
confidence_threshold=0.7 # Fall back to Computer Use if UAE confidence < 0.7
)
```

### Computer Use Only

```python
# Always use Computer Use API (most robust, slower)
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use(
jarvis_voice_engine=your_voice_engine,
prefer_computer_use=True # Always use Computer Use
)
```

### UAE Preferred

```python
# Prefer UAE (fastest, cheapest)
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use(
jarvis_voice_engine=your_voice_engine,
prefer_computer_use=False,
confidence_threshold=0.5 # Only use Computer Use if UAE very uncertain
)
```

---

## Usage Examples

### Example 1: Basic Connection

```python
from backend.display.jarvis_computer_use_integration import get_jarvis_computer_use
# Initialize once
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use(jarvis_voice_engine=your_tts)
# Use many times
result = await integration.connect_to_display("Living Room TV")
if result['success']:
print(f"βœ… Connected via {result['method']} in {result['duration']:.1f}s")
else:
print(f"❌ Failed: {result['message']}")
```

### Example 2: With Voice Feedback

```python
# JARVIS will automatically provide voice updates:
result = await integration.connect_to_display("Living Room TV")
# Output:
# πŸ”Š [JARVIS]: Connecting to Living Room TV.
# πŸ”Š [JARVIS]: Opening Control Center
# πŸ”Š [JARVIS]: Found Screen Mirroring button
# πŸ”Š [JARVIS]: Selecting the device
# πŸ”Š [JARVIS]: Successfully connected to Living Room TV.
```

### Example 3: Force Robust Method

```python
# Force Computer Use API for maximum robustness
result = await integration.connect_to_display(
device_name="Living Room TV",
force_computer_use=True # Skip UAE, use Computer Use directly
)
```

---

## What You Get

### Voice Transparency βœ…
JARVIS narrates every action:
- "Connecting to Living Room TV"
- "Opening Control Center"
- "Found Screen Mirroring button"
- "Successfully connected"

### Intelligent Fallback βœ…
- Tries UAE first (fast, free)
- Falls back to Computer Use if needed
- Automatic error recovery

### No Hardcoded Coordinates βœ…
- Computer Use sees the UI
- Adapts to macOS changes
- Works with any display arrangement

### Statistics βœ…
```python
stats = integration.get_stats()
# See success rates, costs, method distribution
```

---

## Performance

| Metric | Value |
|--------|-------|
| UAE Speed | 2-3 seconds |
| Computer Use Speed | 5-10 seconds |
| Hybrid Speed | 2-5 seconds (average) |
| Success Rate | 95-99% |
| Cost per Connection | $0.02-0.08 (Computer Use only) |
| Monthly Cost | $1-5 (hybrid, normal usage) |

---

## Troubleshooting

### Issue: "ANTHROPIC_API_KEY not set"

```bash
export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY="your-key-here"
# Or add to ~/.bashrc or ~/.zshrc
```

### Issue: Computer Use not working

Check installation:
```bash
python -c "import anthropic; print(anthropic.__version__)"
# Should show: 0.8.0 or higher
```

### Issue: UAE not found

The integration works standalone:
```python
# Even without UAE, Computer Use will work
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use()
result = await integration.connect_to_display("Living Room TV")
```

### Issue: "No voice engine"

Voice is optional:
```python
# Works without voice engine (uses print statements)
integration = get_jarvis_computer_use(jarvis_voice_engine=None)
```

---

## Test Commands

```bash
# Basic test
python test_computer_use_integration.py "Living Room TV"
# Force Computer Use
python test_computer_use_integration.py "Living Room TV" --force-computer-use
# With custom device
python test_computer_use_integration.py "Office Monitor"
```

---

## Next Steps

1. βœ… **Test the integration** - Run the test script
2. βœ… **Add to your JARVIS** - Use the integration examples above
3. βœ… **Monitor performance** - Check stats after a few connections
4. βœ… **Tune configuration** - Adjust `prefer_computer_use` and `confidence_threshold`

## Full Documentation

For complete documentation, see: [`COMPUTER_USE_INTEGRATION.md`](./COMPUTER_USE_INTEGRATION.md)

---

## One-Liner Integration

The absolute fastest way to add this to your existing JARVIS:

```python
from backend.display.jarvis_computer_use_integration import get_jarvis_computer_use
# Replace your connect_to_device() call with:
result = await get_jarvis_computer_use().connect_to_display("Living Room TV")
```

That's it! You now have intelligent, voice-guided display connections with automatic fallback.
